Current Status

On November 4, 2014, Alaska voted to yes to Measure 2, which removes penalties for adults 21 and older who possess, use, and grow a limited amount of marijuana. It makes the Alcoholic Beverage Control in charge of regulating and licensing marijuana producers, wholesalers, processors, and retailers. It also gives the state legislature the authority to create a new Marijuana Control Board at any time to assume such power, duties, and responsibilities related to marijuana regulation.

Under the timeline set forth in Alaskan law, the ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Control) or the Marijuana Control Board must begin accepting applications by February 24, 2016 and issue the first licenses in May of 2016.

Medical Marijuana

The conditions and symptoms eligible for medical cannabis are: cachexia, cancer, chronic pain, epilepsy and other conditions characterized by spasms, chronic glaucoma, HIV or AIDS, multiple sclerosis and nausea.
